The Vision

Sparring Chess was born from a simple idea: what if you could practice chess openings against the moves that players at your level actually play? Instead of playing crazy bots or memorizing theoretical lines that you'll rarely encounter, you can train against the real moves you'll face in your games.

Who We Are

Not we, I am a solopreneur chess enthusiast and software developer who believes that chess improvement should be accessible to everyone. With a background in both chess and technology, I set out to create a tool that bridges the gap between traditional opening preparation and practical, real-world play.

Why We Built This

Traditional opening preparation often focuses on master-level games and theoretical novelties. But for most players, this approach doesn't reflect the positions they'll actually encounter. Sparring Chess bridges this gap by letting you practice against statistically common moves from players at your rating level.

By combining opening book data with your personal game history and repertoire, we help you identify weaknesses in your preparation and practice the lines that matter most for your improvement.

Sparring Chess is developed and maintained by Sparring Chess Labs that is me at home on my almost none free time, creating innovative chess training tools.
